SCHUNK Electronic Solutions has introduced a groundbreaking innovation to the electronics manufacturing world with the launch of the ILR-2200, a fully automated inline depaneling machine based on a modular design principle. This state-of-the-art system separates individual circuit boards from entire PCB panels using an advanced milling module and is the first machine of its kind globally to offer such high modular flexibility.
According to Jochen Ehmer, Managing Partner of SCHUNK Electronic Solutions, “Electronics producers can start with a cost-effective base version of the ILR-2200 and retrofit it later with additional modules—such as milling and gripping systems, a camera module, or even second and third printed circuit board handling systems to reduce dead times.” This progressive design enables the machine to grow with the operational needs of manufacturers. Such scalability equips electronics producers for the Industry 4.0 era, where production systems must be agile and responsive to rapidly changing demands.
Modular, Flexible, and Ready for Future Challenges
The ILR-2200’s modular architecture allows for rapid adaptation to new production requirements, making it future-proof. Whether expanding capabilities or adjusting production for different product types, users can upgrade the system easily and cost-effectively without needing to invest in a completely new machine.
Unmatched Speed and Precision in Depaneling
Users of the ILR-2200 benefit from extremely short cycle times and exceptional positioning accuracy. PCBs enter the machine within two seconds via a linear motor passing switch. The built-in milling module then separates boards with a precision of ±0.1 millimetres. Thanks to high-performance linear motor axes and cutting-edge control systems, the milling modules reach speeds of 2 meters per second, while sawing modules operate at 10 meters per minute.
After depaneling, the PCBs are transferred either onto a conveyor or into a shuttle system using a programmable gripper with an angular positioning accuracy of ±0.02 millimetres—a level of accuracy equivalent to one-third the width of a human hair. This precision ensures that fragile components are protected during handling, reducing damage and increasing yield.
Moreover, the ILR-2200 is the only machine in the market that enables simultaneous milling and sawing within the same platform. This dual capability, combined with zero setup times and maintenance-free linear axes, significantly boosts production throughput and minimizes downtime.
High Availability and Energy Efficiency
Designed for operational efficiency, the ILR-2200 offers technical availability of over 98 percent, ensuring maximum uptime. Despite its capabilities, the machine remains energy-efficient, with a two-shuttle version consuming just 800 watts—no more than a standard microwave.
The ILR-2200 represents a revolutionary advancement in PCB depaneling, offering unmatched modularity, speed, precision, and reliability. Its future-ready design makes it the ideal solution for manufacturers aiming to stay competitive in the evolving electronics landscape.
