Q) ZOLLER is celebrating 80 remarkable years. What are some defining milestones in the company’s journey that have shaped its global reputation in precision tooling and inspection technology?

The most important step was the very first one. On September 1st, 1945, Alfred Zoller founded the company during a time of great uncertainty. That decision – made with vision and courage – laid the foundation for everything that followed.
A pivotal milestone came in the 1980s when we transitioned from job-order production to the development of our own measuring and presetting systems. My father, Eberhard Zoller, made the strategic decision in 1985 to focus entirely on precision tool measurement – at a time when digitalization was still in its infancy. That commitment to software development was a decisive move that shaped ZOLLER’s path forward.
We overcame the 1992/93 economic crisis in the German machine tool industry by actively driving international expansion and systematically growing our product portfolio. Another major step was the opening of our new headquarters in Pleidelsheim in 2020 – an investment in innovation, collaboration, and long-term growth.

Q) How has ZOLLER evolved its technology offerings to meet the changing demands of the manufacturing industry—from conventional tooling to Industry 4.0 and smart factories?

Our systems no longer just measure and preset tools – they organize digital workflows, monitor tool status, and connect to ERP, CAM, and machine controls. With »pilot 4.0«, »zidCode 4.0«, and our TMS Tool Management Solutions, we ensure that data flows consistently – from planning to the shopfloor.

Q) With the rise of automation and data-driven manufacturing, how does ZOLLER integrate software and digitalization into its measuring and presetting systems?

Software is at the heart of what we do. Every ZOLLER device – from entry-level to high-end – is powered by »pilot 4.0«, our proprietary measuring software that standardizes operation across the entire product family.
Our systems are fully integrated into the digital factory. Whether through chip reading, QR code scanning, or direct ERP connections, tool data is managed automatically and transmitted securely – without manual input. We also support scalable architectures, including »webTMS« for cloud-based tool management across multiple locations.
Our goal is clear: to simplify complexity and provide our customers with solutions that increase transparency, minimize downtime, and boost efficiency.

Q) As ZOLLER completes 80 years, what message would you like to share with your customers, partners, and employees across the globe?

Above all, I want to say thank you. Thank you to our customers for their trust, their feedback, and the many shared projects that pushed us forward. Thank you to our partners worldwide who bring ZOLLER technology into the field with competence and commitment. And thank you to our team – for their ideas, dedication, and tireless drive to keep ZOLLER moving.
80 years is not just a number. It’s a sign of continuity, responsibility, and innovation. We are proud of what we’ve achieved – and even more excited about what lies ahead.

Q ) Looking ahead, what is ZOLLER’s vision for the next decade in tooling and measurement—especially in the context of sustainability, connectivity, and global industry trends?

The next decade will be about intelligent automation, modularity, and accessibility. We believe that high-end technology must become scalable and economically viable for all manufacturers – regardless of size.
We will continue to focus on closed-loop processes, predictive tool analytics, and seamless system integration. Sustainability plays a growing role: by optimizing tool usage and minimizing waste, we help our customers run more efficient and environmentally responsible production.
ZOLLER will stay what it always has been: a trusted partner for precision, a driver of digital innovation, and a solution provider for the challenges of tomorrow’s manufacturing world.

You want to experience ZOLLER technology live? – Visit us at EMO 2025 in Hanover from September 22–26, and discover how our solutions are shaping the future of tool presetting, measuring and management – smart, connected and ready for what’s next.
