The EMAG UG Series combines proven technology with a cost-efficient base, offering a sophisticated solution for internal, external, and out-of-round grinding. These machines provide high flexibility and process reliability for applications ranging from toolmaking to production of long shafts.
Model Overview
The series features four variants based on grinding length:
- UG 400: 400 mm
- UG 630: 630 mm
- UG 1000: 1,000 mm (Max workpiece weight: 120 kg)
- UG 1500: 1,500 mm
Technical foundations include linear guides, servo drives with ball screws, and direct-drive motorized spindles. The standard center height is 175 mm.

Precision Components
- Grinding Head: Equipped with direct-drive motor spindles (up to 11 kW), the head eliminates belt-drive vibrations. An automatically swiveling B-axis allows positioning between -15° and +225° with 0.0005-degree accuracy.
- Workhead: Tapered roller bearings ensure high rigidity and a concentricity accuracy of 0.5 µm. A swivel range of 0° to +30° supports various cone grinding strategies. An optional C-axis enables out-of-round and thread grinding.
- Tailstock: Precise centering is achieved via a 63 mm diameter quill. Fine adjustment of ±40 µm allows for taper correction, ensuring concentricity under one micrometer.
Dressing and Customization
Modular dressing systems adapt to specific tasks:
- Table dresser: Flexible positioning for changing geometries.
- Dressing spindle: Mounted on the workhead for automated batch production.
- Dressing tiles: A cost-effective solution for simple tasks.
Further extensions include NC synchronous tailstocks, in-process measuring, and hydraulic steady rests.
Control and Global Support
The machines feature FANUC 0i-TF controls with a dialog-oriented HMI. For complex contours, the FANUC 31iB Plus offers higher computing power for synchronized motion. Using FANUC ensures high service availability and international spare parts support.
EMAG provides a global service network across Europe, the Americas, and Asia. As an OEM, they offer “turn-key” packages including tools, workholding, and programming. Their comprehensive support program includes the EMAG Academy, preventive maintenance, and original spare parts to maximize machine life and availability.
