The Sidelock Holder:
Sidelock holders secure the tool shank against the toolholder bore with side-locking screws. Their high torque capacity makes them suitable for heavy machining. Separate versions are needed for Weldon and Whistle Notch shanks, and the tool position is fixed. However, the locking mechanism shifts the tool off-center, which can cause imbalance and reduce machining precision.
The ER Collet Holder:
The tool shank is inserted into the ER collet holder and secured by tightening the clamping nut with a hook wrench. The holder is affordable and easy to use. However, one easily tightens the clamping nut a little too much, which effect the centering of the tool and wears out collet sleeves, an additional replacement cost. Imbalance is another known problem, reducing the lifetime on your tools and that over time causes wear out on your machine spindle/ bearing, which is costly to replace
The Shrink-fit Holder:
A shrink-fit holder is heated to expand its bore, allowing the tool shank to be inserted and securely clamped as the holder cools. This provides accurate centering, low runout, and good balance. However, each tool requires a dedicated holder and costly tool-change equipment. The holder is rated for approximately 500 tool changes, and high energy consumption has led many users to seek more sustainable alternatives.
The Power Tool Holders:
Power toolholders provide high clamping torque through a nut-and-needle-bearing mechanism acting on the body’s tapered outer diameter. The operator tightens the nut, typically with a dedicated torque wrench, until the holder securely grips the tool shank. Suitable for both roughing and finishing, these holders offer flexibility and good initial precision. However, sustained contact pressure can wear the bearings, gradually reducing accuracy and increasing operating costs.

ETP HYDRO-GRIP®- Features and Benefits
ETP HYDRO-GRIP® can clamp both h6 and h7 tool shanks; the clamping torque on h7 shanks would be lower than on h6 shanks (Torque values for both shanks are given in ETP Catalog). Weldon shanks can be clamped in ETP HYDRO-GRIP® with bore sizes 12mm and above; for bore size 12 mm it is recommended to use Weldon tool shanks 10mm and below with sleeves.
ETP HYDRO-GRIP® can precisely clamp on reduced tool shank lengths with reduced clamping torque values (Refer ETP Catalog).
For optimal performance and consistent clamping torque on the tool shank, the use of a 6Nm preset torque wrench is recommended, This ensures secure tool retention and maximizes the holder’s performance.
All ETP HYDRO-GRIP® holders are engineered to precisely clamp tools with an h6 shank tolerance and maintain exceptional concentricity, achieving TIR of ≤ 0.004 mm at 2.5x the tool diameter.

ETP HYDRO-GRIP® Care & Maintenance
Never use the ETP HYDRO-GRIP® holder in an environment where temperatures exceed 55° C (120° F) or are below -10° C (15° F).
The ETP HYDRO-GRIP® holder should not be kept clamped during storage and should be slightly lubricated.
Use the sleeve extractor (see below) to remove the sleeve from the ETP HYDRO-GRIP®.
