In a strategic move that reinforces its global ambitions, TYROLIT—one of the world’s leading manufacturers of grinding, cutting, and drilling tools—has officially established TYROLIT Grinding Technologies Pvt. Ltd. in India. In this exclusive Q&A, Mr. Nilesh Nazre, the Managing Director for the production unit, shares insights into the significance of this expansion, TYROLIT’s India-centric vision, and how the company plans to revolutionize grinding technology for Indian manufacturing.

Congratulations on setting up TYROLIT Grinding Technologies Pvt. Ltd. in India. What is the strategic importance of this move for TYROLIT globally?

India represents a high-potential growth market for TYROLIT. With its fast-growing manufacturing sector and rising demand for precision, setting up a subsidiary allows us to be closer to our customers and respond faster to their needs. This move reinforces our global supply chain, reduces lead times, and enables us to leverage India’s skilled talent pool. It also fits perfectly with our goal of localizing production for industries like automotive, tooling, aerospace, and medical machining.

How does TYROLIT view India’s role in the global manufacturing and precision grinding ecosystem?

India is no longer just a cost-effective manufacturing destination—it’s evolving into a global quality hub. With government initiatives like “Make in India” and rising local demand for high-precision components, the country is playing a pivotal role in global supply chains. We see India as both a strategic consumer and a future innovation center for grinding technologies customized to emerging market needs.

Mr. Nazre, as the newly appointed Managing Director, what is your vision for TYROLIT’s growth and footprint in India?

My vision is to position TYROLIT as the go-to partner for high-performance grinding solutions in India. We plan to localize our offerings to suit Indian cost-performance needs, empower customers with deep technical support, and forge strong partnerships with MSMEs and large industrial players. Moreover, I want to harness India’s R&D strength to co-create solutions for industries like EVs, aerospace, and tooling.

How do you plan to position TYROLIT against existing players in the Indian grinding and abrasive solutions market?

TYROLIT’s edge lies in our technology leadership and sustainability. Our advanced CBN and diamond abrasives, along with IoT-enabled grinding systems, deliver both performance and eco-efficiency. Unlike import-reliant competitors, we’re building in-country inventory and technical teams. Also, our collaborative model—co-developing customized wheels with customers—sets us apart.

Could you elaborate on TYROLIT’s product portfolio and the core industries it serves—both globally and in India?

Globally, TYROLIT serves automotive, tooling, aerospace, energy, and medical industries. Our product range includes precision grinding wheels (conventional, CBN, and diamond), cutting tools, and sawing systems. In India, we’re initially focusing on automotive (gear, cam, and crankshaft grinding), carbide tooling, aerospace blade finishing, and hardened steel machining in dies and moulds.

Which TYROLIT solutions do you see gaining traction in the Indian market—especially in sectors like automotive, aerospace, die & mould, or medical machining?

We expect strong demand in:

  • Automotive: CBN wheels for cam/crank grinding, electroplated tools for EV motors.
  • Tooling: CBN/diamond wheels for carbide round/flat tools.
  • Aerospace: Superabrasives for turbine blade profiling.
  • Medical: Micro-grinding tools for surgical devices.
  • MSMEs: Cost-effective resin-bonded wheels tailored to Indian machine shops.

Will the new India office also serve as a technical or application support center for Indian customers?

Beyond manufacturing, our India operation will act as a full-fledged technical hub. While our Bengaluru sales subsidiary has been supporting customers for over 15 years, the new entity will enhance services like on-site trials, process optimization, and technical training. Our application engineers will work closely with customers to fine-tune grinding processes for maximum output and quality.

How does TYROLIT intend to add value to Indian manufacturers beyond supplying premium grinding solutions?

Our value proposition goes far beyond the tool. We conduct grinding process audits to enhance productivity, introduce global best practices to reduce cycle times, and promote sustainability through tools that reduce coolant use and power consumption. We’re not just tool suppliers—we’re partners in your efficiency journey.

What is TYROLIT’s go-to-market strategy in India—direct engagement, partnerships, or a mix of both?

It’s a strategic mix. We directly engage with large OEMs like Tata, Mahindra, and Bharat Forge. At the same time, we are expanding our reach through trained channel partners in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. Additionally, our digital tools—like wheel selection configurators and IoT-powered predictive maintenance—ensure customers can access support and solutions anytime, anywhere.

How do you envision TYROLIT India’s role evolving in the next 5 years?

We have ambitious plans:

  • Achieve a double-digit market share in the Indian and broader Asian abrasives market.
  • Localize manufacturing of select product lines to serve the region faster and more efficiently.
  • Collaborate with Indian research institutes on material innovations.
  • Support sustainability by reducing our customers’ carbon footprint using TYROLIT’s advanced grinding technologies.

With a compelling mix of technological innovation, localized solutions, and deep customer engagement, TYROLIT is set to grind its way into the heart of Indian manufacturing. TYROLIT, the company is not just entering a market—it’s shaping its future.
