FARO CREAFORM, a business of AMETEK, Inc., has introduced new casting inspection enhancements for its CAM2® software platform, expanding compatibility to FARO CREAFORM handheld 3D scanners alongside FaroArm portable CMMs and Vantage Laser Trackers.

The latest release enables manufacturers to combine scanning and inspection technologies within a unified workflow, supporting dimensional inspection against 2D drawings and 3D CAD models, including GD&T analysis. Automated repeat inspection workflows and comprehensive reporting further streamline quality processes.

The enhancements are designed to help manufacturers validate castings before machining, reducing scrap, rework and costly machining failures. The solution is particularly relevant to automotive, aerospace, heavy equipment, energy and general manufacturing applications.

Key improvements include Smart Alignment, featuring Advanced Best Fit Alignment and material distribution optimisation; enhanced Color Mapping for clearer inspection visualisation; and Cross-section Analysis, enabling virtual evaluation of critical internal features.

According to FARO CREAFORM, these capabilities provide actionable inspection data earlier in production, helping manufacturers make faster, data-driven decisions and improve machining readiness.

By bringing handheld 3D scanning and advanced inspection into a unified platform, CAM2® aims to simplify validation, improve traceability and deliver more consistent production outcomes.
