Teledyne FLIR OEM, part of Teledyne Technologies, has been selected to support the U.S. Army’s Delivering Unmatched Thermal Capability Hastened (DUTCH) initiative, aimed at advancing next-generation uncooled thermal infrared (IR) sensing for defence applications.
Led by the Office of the Assistant Secretary of War for Critical Technologies and the U.S. Army DEVCOM C5ISR Center, the initiative seeks to improve uncooled thermal sensor performance while reducing size, weight, power and cost (SWaP-C). It also focuses on scaling these technologies for high-volume production to support future defence programmes.
Uncooled thermal sensors are widely used in applications including uncrewed aerial systems, loitering munitions, thermal binoculars and weapons sights.
Under the award, Teledyne FLIR OEM will further develop uncooled thermal imaging technologies and apply its system-integration expertise to support technology development and demonstration aligned with U.S. Army modernisation priorities. The effort builds on the company’s investments in small-pixel-pitch uncooled thermal architectures and recent innovations aimed at scaling integration across defence and uncrewed platforms.
“Teledyne FLIR OEM is proud to contribute to the U.S. Army’s efforts to accelerate next-generation uncooled thermal performance while strengthening a secure, resilient domestic industrial base,” said Paul Clayton, President, Teledyne FLIR OEM.
The DUTCH initiative also supports broader U.S. priorities around strengthening secure microelectronics supply chains and domestic manufacturing capacity for mission-critical technologies. Teledyne FLIR OEM said its U.S.-based manufacturing and system-integration capabilities can help establish a scalable domestic supply base for infrared components.
“A trusted, scalable, and resilient domestic supply of high-performance thermal imaging camera modules is vital to U.S. national security,” said George Bobb, President and CEO, Teledyne Technologies.
Teledyne FLIR OEM describes itself as a major volume manufacturer of ITAR-free and NDAA-compliant infrared sensor and camera modules, supplying thermal imaging solutions for defence, automotive, uncrewed, professional and AI applications
